The Official Word from CBS on Big Brother Houseguest Amber and the Future Evictees

STATEMENT FROM CBS

We have made jury members of “Big Brother” available to the press the past few seasons, always with the proviso that their questions not inform the ejected House Guest of influences outside his or her personal experience in the house. This season, several cast members have made either offensive statements or exhibited controversial behavior. We respect journalists’ interest and right to pose questions about these matters, but at the same time believe doing so could provide information that influences the final vote and potential outcome of the 12-week competition.

For that reason, the remaining jurors will not be made available to the media for the duration of the program.

They will, of course, be available to the press immediately following the “Big Brother” finale on Sept. 18.

I'm confused...it almosst reads like Amber and those remaining int he house will not be made available, but Jen and Dustin will. Regardless...I agree...too many hints can be made to tip the jury off as to America's take on situations. YEA CBS for once!

Hmmm, wonder if the HG will get a preview of America's take on them before they do go before the world.

heheheeeeeeee great minds think alike Carolyn, I just posted this too. Yes this is very interesting and I cannot believe Dick's statement to the camera this morning about Jen. He said if he was on the outside he would have killed Jen and buried her in the yard. LOL where are these people from then Jess just said she hates everyone in the house, she is starting to sound like Dani.

They don't need to promote this show, the ratings are good in their target audiences. Why not save these interviews for reunion show to increase interest/ratings in that show. Does Amber really need to talk to reporters? I think they are putting an importance on adjusting her expectations outside the bubble.

It's getting blown out of proportion like when Jameka thought Zach was a racist for rubbing his leg after touching her hand. When in all likelihood he was probably trying to scratch the itch from the ringworm, we found out later, he had on his leg.

It makes sense. Sort of like in the Back to the Future (I know, stay with me here, I do have a point) when you can't let a person know too much about their own destiny because it'll inevitably influence their behavior.

In this case, who knows how Amber will take it or even how much she will comprehend and it could not only produce some guilt, remorse, towards Eric (which will impact her already questionable/poor decision-making abilities towards him and the other person in the F2) but it could also have her worry for her life and future and her family's well-being...

I don't understand how asking her questions will change her vote in the end. The comments that she would be asked about were made by her, not another HG. If they were worried about press giving info that could influence the vote why interview any of the evicted HG's? The others were asked questions and no one worried that their vote would be swayed. I think it's strange that they switched it now.

It COULD influence the jury! Bravo!

Someone like Amber for example, could EASILY vote Eric as the winner if he makes Final 2. Her twisted reason? In her mind it would be redemption of sorts, to show the world she has nothing against Jews by subtly declaring "See! I voted for one!"

Goes along the lines of imbeciles who swear they are not racist cause they have "a black friend, so there!"

Also, we all know that it happens all the time that while people may LOATHE a HG like Dick, in the end they sometimes vote for their win anyway! Their reasons for doing so is because personal feelings aside, they think he duped them all, scared them all, bullied them all, yet STILL made it to the Final 2, so bravo to him and here's my vote!

We've seen it time and time again happen like that. Dr. Will being a great example as well as Boogie! Despised by all and then applauded in the end for it.

So, that being said, if the jury members hear that all these "groups" are picketing against Dick, they could in turn easily not vote for him because they would be afraid of backlash for "rewarding" his behavior. Even if they had in mind to vote for him, after a tip off like that, it could change it up.

I think it's a fantastic idea they will no longer allow it. Need to keep these people in their own little word and bubble :-)

Just an example to further clarify my point. They interviewed Dustin even though he calls his dog the N word. They weren't worried that he would possibly feel bad and vote for Jameka to atone for his comments about what he calls his dog.

CBS is probably trying to mitigate (do not think Amber would understand this word!!!) legal issues and outcries.
There were lots of sexist, racist, bad taste, etc. remarks against so many groups, women, Jewish, Asians, gays, etc.

On another topic, how does POV really work?
Does it still protect the winner if (s)he exercises on someone on the block? In the case of someone already on the block, it does not apply, right? Like in the case of Dick giving it to Daniele.
If it is so, Zach has better put Jess and Eric on the block and see if one of them wins POV and save the other - chivalry!

Another twist, in case Eric wins POV and save Jess, would be that Zach turns around and put either Daniel or Dick. Jameka will then hold the deciding vote (i.e. Jess will vote to keep Eric and one D will vote to keep the other D). Suddenly, another upheaval in the house! Sweet!

Eval Girl, so true, but then again, hindsight right? Maybe they WOULDN'T have allowed Dustin to be interviewed had they thought of exactly what you just said.

Also, the whole Anti-Semitic/Amber thing made the news and CNN for crying out loud, while what Dustin calls his dog didn't and tons of people have never even HEARD of that little tidbit, see the difference???

Interviewers for SURE were gonna address that with Amber after the news it made around the country.

So I think by the time Amber got evicted that is when CBS wised up and pulled the plug on any more interviews......

Aaaawwwwwwwww Thank you Bake :-)

I realy think it was more specifically BECAUSE it was Amber and the impact her comment made around this country that made CBS panic and change "policy".

Eval Girl's example however was right on the money when you think about it. I would bet my left boobie that had Dustin's statement of what he calls his dog made the likes of CNN like Amber did, there would have been NO interviews from the get go!

I think CBS is right, especially when it comes to Amber. How would she react emotionally to being asked certain question?
My counterpoint is Dustin said somethng offensive. He was
asked about it. He showed no guilt
about it.
In fact, his response was 'how could anyone who is gay be racist?"
(in response to the name of his dog)

If either of the two nominees are POV holders, they can only save one (like Dick did with Dani). Henceforthm Eric could save Jess, but then Jameka would go up. If Eric wasn't nominated... then he and Jess would both be saved and either of D&D would have to be put up since there is nobody else left.

While we are on the subject of evicted HG's...why haven't they shown any of the sequester house video like in previous seasons? It leads me to believe that there has been some crazy stuff going on in that house long before ant-semetic Whamber ever arrived. Part of the reason not to grant media interveiws goes back to the behaviors being exibited by Dustin & Jen as well.
Wow...this season did turn out not to be a snoozefest after all.

Ok this is in no way say that Amber's remarks were ok in anyway shape or form. But I really don't think the girl knows any better, thats not an excuse for her. I mean I think to her shes just talking others have said things too in the house even Jess calling Eric a little jew baby the other day?!? Why would you say that to someeone you care about? Cuz you think you can and its funny... did Eric take offense ?? probably not BUT i have friends that are jewish that told me they did! This 20 something Full House does not care has no zippers on their lips when it comes to things they say. Since they see Daddy Dick do it and get away with they all parrot him. Not to say they all dont have potty mouth cuz they all do even Jameka !! But you notice the screaming and other stuff didnt start till that Dick started his tirades on people!

Meka tried several times to get the point across to Amber that she should not say these thing I think she just lacked wanting to put the smack down to her about it. ED KNOWS that stuff is wrong thus the reason she went after him. Again not right, but just giving another perspective! Unfortunatly in life some people we cut a little more slack to than others in these situation. I am sure she will be shocked they think this of her, and i will bet my right boobie ( so we have a set) she will say " how can i be a racist my best friends in the house were a gay man and black woman". And i will tell you why!

Where i am from we see this alot its sad to say the "big public" minorities gay and black are not targeted as much any more while the mexican and asian population which has exploded into our prodomitatly white ( title town) giving you a hit where i am from) community. They will make jokes all the time about them slurs of the worst kind and when you call them on it and then say but my best friend is gay or black or better yet gay and black, i am not racist.. They don't think those comments are racist at all but they are! Just because your close to one minority does not give cart blanche to be rude about the rest it does not give you an in. But to some people it does sad to say.. I truely believe she is gonna be shocked. And lets face it the people that are in the house now were the worst abusers of this. Meka included at some points. But she's been far less loose with the "terms". So its time to put the smackdown on them. I think they tested the waters with Jenn and she failed and said somethings about BB in general and other stuff. So they needed to put an end to it the best way and for a reason everyone could wrap their mind around.. Heaven forbid they should take respoinsiblity for creating this monster house and all the the little monsters in it!

Anon@2:35 LMAO!!!! We have a set I see!!

Incredible points ya just made.

I do see a huge difference though between what Amber did REPEATEDLY and Jess' un-funny "Jew-Baby" comment. Jess thought it was cute (ick!) and wasn't gossiping about how typical Jews were, it was not in that context.

Also, Amber had lengthy, very lenghty, conversations all about the perils of the big bad Jews. She went on and on and on (I lost count you know, sincerely) and it wasn't some one time, maybe even two time, comment that she made and then dropped. The woman gave full details to Jam over and over of why Jews were so terrible!

She also can't say she was "caught" up in anything in that house or claim she was just absent mindedly talking for the sake of talking because more than once, she ignorantly threw her own mother & sister under the bus by claiming this is how they think of Jews, period. She made that very clear that the whole lot of them dislike them and they ALL did LONG before Amber was ever cast for a TV show.

It showed us as the viwers this was a long-standing feeling of hers that she came into the house with and she made it clear (according to her now, we can't know for certain) that her family thinks the same as well.

Your insight on the latter part (brilliant by the way!) was dead on, regading people's social mentality of thinking they have carte blanche due to the company they may keep.

Regardless, if Miss Amber did in fact try to pull that pathetic "how can I be racist when I was close to a black girl and a gay man?" crap, I would point out that no where in that mix was she close to a Jewish man or woman! So even by that theory of using that sad defense, she doesn't have a leg to stand on unless she befriends a Jewish person quickly!!!

Ya need the back-up friend as the example is your gonna use the defense Amber!!! Ya cant trade in the black girl and the gay guy for a Jew on this one mama!! LOL

Being a half-black, half-gay mama myself, none of these possible defenses any of them may try to use are ever gonna fly in my world :-)

Alida~ I fully agree there is no justifying any of it. i say it all the time. I was raised to give anyone a chance. When i was younger and we travel extensively when I was young we would open up the yellow pages and i would blindly point to place in it and we would go and worship there. Sometimes it was Baptist, Sometimes Catholic, Jewish or 7 day advetist we went to all differnt houses of worship. I think we did them each at least 3 times. I got a greater understand of faith in its finest and worst forms. I remember one all black Baptist Church welcoming us with open arms and embracing us and inviting us to the lunch afterwards the singing brought tears to my eyes. Some were very cold and formal but i got things out of each adventure, and realized there was a piece of each culture that I ebraced and took with me.

We do not have a large Jewish community here but i have friends that are in other parts of the country.I was hurt for them at alot of the remarks that have flown around this season. I know battered woman that have been verbally and mentally abused as well. I am always sadden and amazed at how quickly they seem to be thrown under da bus for some reason the Jewish faith seem to get it the worst some times.:(

I think Amber is very much a product of her upbringing . Even the bit bull comments were interesting. I am sorry but when you said what you said about her family hating Jewish people as well the bad person in me went to..... She will get one now to protect her from all the Jewish and Bad people who will be knocking on her door wanting to knock her out for what she said. And the one time it bites a kid or someone minding their own business she will say well we trained it to only attack Jewish and Bad people not the 'good people" you must "look" jewish or you must be a bad person for the dog to have done that they sense the the bad energy.

( ok psa I don't think all pits are bad and when trained right they can be wonderful pets when in loving homes )

Cuz in Amber's world that would justify it sad but true.

Thanks Carolyn for allowing us to have this forum to speak is there anyway we can get info on the comp last night and the card, the extra cups, the call and how Eric got it? or will we have to wait for Sat show to see it cuz we don't really know??

monyc 12:00...love it, "who knows how Amber will take it or even how much she will comprehend" Sounds like her lack of comprehension over many words. She obviously thinks america LOVES her. Again, delusional.

About the interviews, could be a question like, "Amber, how will your racist comments effect your final vote?" Now Amber is backtracking and looking at every word, move, thought she shared with the world. Questions can be put in a way to hint at outside views or new viewpoints in general.

Has anyone else noticed that Jess really hasn't displayed any physical interest in Eric? She kissed back, but like a dead fish.

I thought this would happen. Why because of all the controversy going on in BB8 this year. You only have to go to some of the other places on the Internet to see the first reactions to any of the verbal abuse or attacks to know this.
Carolyn I commend your site, for it truly allows one to say his/her piece but only in a respectful way.
BB8 may be only a game/reality TV show it allows some things to be said and done in the heat of emotions.
We know this to be a fact but it doesn't change what each and every one of us feels toward the actions of the players.
Carol,Mike,Nick and Kail are absolved from this because they really didn't get involved. They are innocent in the actions of the rest of BB8 house guests.
Let me say it this way and I'll be done.....
How is BB8 going to justify the actions of each and everyone of the players who said or did something to hurt somebody else?

I have just finished reading all of the above comments and have to say why is it ok for eric to wack his winnie on t.v but Dick say the f word and every one freaks out. I cant stand how people sit back and judge. Its a show if you dont like it and take offense dont watch. If you or any one else thinks that being in a house with 13 other people for 3 months wont bring out the Ghetto in you Oh lets not forget no food slop only then judge away. First one to throw stone. I have watched this show for 8 years do I like all the actions of guest no but thats the point people do bad things in that situation.Dah.

just because this happened one day after Amber was evicted, does not mean she is why. The press release says things were said... that means someone in an interview before Amber.... like Jen... said things that were not supposed to be said. They have had so many problems with Jen in the sequester house...I wouldnt put it past her to say things she was not supposed to say.
