Amber's Apology

Reality News Online has already interviewed Amber. She's already gotten wind of all the negative publicity due to her comments. Here's what she had to say when gently questioned about her comments:

RNO: Is there anything else you want to tell us about your time in the Big Brother house?

Amber: I do – two things. First, my crying. Everybody looks at me and laughs because I cry so much. But they portrayed me crying all the time. I spoke to my family [about what was shown on TV]. Yes I did cry a lot, but they didn’t show my fun side, my laughing side. It’s very embarrassing. I’m proud that I cry but my daughter was watching and it offends me that they only showed me crying. I had so many times in the house when I didn’t cry, they really showed my character not to be me and that really bothers me.

[The second thing is] I made a comment when I was upset with Eric – I made it about Jewish people and people from New York. I just want to tell the people I offended that I am very sorry. I did not mean to offend anybody and I was upset with Eric at the time. Being upset, people tend to say things they don’t mean. That came from a really bad place, and from the bottom of my heart, I am truly sorry – I send my apologies to anyone I offended. I don’t like to hurt people’s feelings. The words just came out and I was upset with Eric. I have friends that are Jewish and friends from New York. I am not prejudiced and I am truly truly truly sorry.

Please check out RealityNewsOnline to see the rest of this interview, as well as their interviews with Jameka and Zach.

Amber: I'm sorry I said what I did... but I have Jewish friends.

What kind of excuse is that?

She can apologize all she wants but it doesn't change the way I view her. She's a rediculously sad excuse for a human. She should get some phychotherapy and possibly admit herself into a mental institution for lack of emotional stability. And didn't she also said her whole family agrees with her anti-semetic view? Unbelievable! Well done Amber...you threw your whole family under the bus with that one. I just hope she's not teaching her daughter to hate Jews.

Just want to add...attacking someone's religion is no way to express how mad you are at someone. Plus Eric is the least religious Jew I have ever seen!

Ugh...Amber just really makes me mad!!!

This isn't related to this post, but I just wanted to say thanks for such great information and updates on BB8Dish. I have truly enjoyed it and will continuing checking daily for updates - even though the season is over. I can't WAIT for next summer. Thanks so much!

That was the most unsinsere apology and excuse ever because if it was due to her being mad at Eric then she would have said it just about him and not all New York Jewish people.

WHATEVER!!! No Sympathy for America's Next Top Model....Right...
I have been searching all over for interviews attacking Amber..I have not found anything to my satisfaction.. Maybe she is too busy supporting Reed Walters and the racists idoits in Jena, LA...

Carolyn, I feel a little sad and looking for something to do now that BB is over...I gues this is withdrawals?? Anyways, I wanted to thank you so much for your hard work this summer. Much Love to you woman...BTW..Survivor, is my all time FAVORITE show so I was happy to see that you are jumping in for the ride!!! Take Care.

I'm a compassionate person and nobody is perfect and everybody has some form of prejudice inside them. It's part of being human... and if you say that's not true... I don't think you are honest. Whatever. One can not change what one does not acknowledge.

I hope Amber gets some serious help to deal with the backlash from this BB experience. Karma is a bitch, but I do not take pleasure in people losing their jobs etc. This is a game.

I hope Amber learns a few lessons from this...

and that goes for all HGs. They all had issues we could bring up, it's just that some rub some people more than others.

I read this, this morning and I still dont see it. The reasoning in being mad at one person... and yet insulting MILLIONS...

this doesn't change my views on you i think you are are self richeous , hypocritical, back stabber who doesn't know her foot from her @ss

i hope you drown in a puddle of your own tears

It is utterly ridiculous to say repeatedly say she was just mad at Eric, at the time. She did not just insult Eric but a whole group of people.
It really bothers me when interviewers don't delve deeper and expose the flaws in one's reasoning/excuses.

Also it is funny that she brings up her Jewish co-worker. Whaaambore talked smack on her & the fact she is a Jew, too.

First off I'm Jewish and from NYC. I believe Amber is sincerely sorry. I also think she's a troubled woman.

We do all say stupid sh-t sometimes, though most of it isn't seen by the whole world. Not defending her! She probably does have assinine predjudices, most predjudices are assinine, and most people have some kind or another.

Mostly I think she is simple minded and speaks without using her brain. Truth is, she probably learned something valuable from this, and I was happy to see that the public stood up for NY Jews - which frankly - being one - and having also lived in parts of the contry that are - um - not so open minded, surprised me a bit.

You know what bothers me WAY MORE than Amber's stupid ignorance, is how they ALL call Eric "shiesty." That's a hateful phrase that has often been used against Jews (it basically just means what Amber said outright). The fact that it is used commonly by all of them, and no one seems to notice, is a different level of predjudice that is much more troubling and insidious. How sad ...

Supposedly her family received alot of threats because of what she said.
Her reason for saying this doesn't make sense. She gets angry at Eric, so she goes to Jameka. Then she tells Jameka these horrid things and pulls her family into it to prove her point?
??????
Anybody see Emily(?) from BB UK who got kicked off. Go to Youtube and check out what her excuse was. In some ways-the excuse was rather like Ambers

How about Dick making fun of homosexuals, and saying he wanted to f* Dustin's a** until it bleeds?

I am in no way supporting what Amber said-- I think she was very stupid on the show, and have no idea what she's like "in real life". But if one hg is going to get blasted for saying something incredibly offensive, why not another?

I just can't with her. Seriously! The girl needs to go get herself an education.

She wants to be a motivational speaker......ok

I knew being back in the real world was going to hit her hard, but I still don't think she comprehends much. That's probably too big of a word for her.

It's one thing to think something in your head, it's another thing to blurt it out on the internet or tv.

lo -- that's the same sentence that stuck out to me! I don't want to bash any former HG's, but what is a better word for ignorant? Naive? Sheltered doesn't work because she works in Vegas. Not sure...

Amber says that CBS made her look bad! Um hello! People who watched Live Feeds saw your every mood Amber! We saw when you were happy too. But we STILL thought what we thought regardless of the CBS show. So dont blame CBS honey. CBS only can work with what you gave them to work with. So no blaming TV for your actions. We saw you 24/7!!!

Carolyn this is why I didnt like you using the word "Jew"

An explanation of our search results.

If you recently used Google to search for the word "Jew," you may have seen results that were very disturbing. We assure you that the views expressed by the sites in your results are not in any way endorsed by Google. We'd like to explain why you're seeing these results when you conduct this search.

A site's ranking in Google's search results relies heavily on computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page's relevance to a given query. Sometimes subtleties of language cause anomalies to appear that cannot be predicted. A search for "Jew" brings up one such unexpected result.

If you use Google to search for "Judaism," "Jewish" or "Jewish people," the results are informative and relevant. So why is a search for "Jew" different? One reason is that the word "Jew" is often used in an anti-Semitic context. Jewish organizations are more likely to use the word "Jewish" when talking about members of their faith. The word has become somewhat charged linguistically, as noted on websites devoted to Jewish topics such as these:

http://shakti.trincoll.edu/~mendele/vol01/vol01.174
http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/jonah081500.asp

Someone searching for information on Jewish people would be more likely to enter terms like "Judaism," "Jewish people," or "Jews" than the single word "Jew." In fact, prior to this incident, the word "Jew" only appeared about once in every 10 million search queries. Now it's likely that the great majority of searches on Google for "Jew" are by people who have heard about this issue and want to see the results for themselves.

The beliefs and preferences of those who work at Google, as well as the opinions of the general public, do not determine or impact our search results. Individual citizens and public interest groups do periodically urge us to remove particular links or otherwise adjust search results. Although Google reserves the right to address such requests individually, Google views the comprehensiveness of our search results as an extremely important priority. Accordingly, we do not remove a page from our search results simply because its content is unpopular or because we receive complaints concerning it. We will, however, remove pages from our results if we believe the page (or its site) violates our Webmaster Guidelines, if we believe we are required to do so by law, or at the request of the webmaster who is responsible for the page.

We apologize for the upsetting nature of the experience you had using Google and appreciate your taking the time to inform us about it.

Sincerely,
The Google Team

p.s. You may be interested in some additional information the Anti-Defamation League has posted about this issue at http://www.adl.org/rumors/google_search_rumors.asp. In addition, we call your attention to Google's search results on this topic.

I agree with anon @ 6:06. As a rape survivor, I find plenty of what Dick said and did very offensive.

Not to excuse anything at all that Amber said - imho she's ignorant and needs educating, and her apology really wasn't that great - but to pass off talking about rape in the way that Dick did as 'just game' is highly irresponsible as well. Yet he won the game!

anon@2:25am - Who are you? I'm assuming no one from the google team came over to leave me a comment (anonymously) and that the majority of your comment was copied and pasted from a response they sent you about something...

6:39 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

anon@2:25am - As a "Jew," I don't like it when non-Jews use the word "Jew" either. I agree there is some negative connotation. BUT, within the culture of Jewish people it is perfectly acceptable for one Jew to say another is a Jew. Why is this? I have no idea. Culture does not always makes sense, but that doesn't change the reality.

BTW - Carolyn has said many times she is Jewish, so as one Jew to another there is absolutley no condemnation for her using that word.

The use of langauge is an ever changing art. Sensitivity is essential, but so is context and intent. Whoever you are, anon@2:25am, you have neglected to consider context and intent - which ironically often leads to bigotry - unintended as it may be. In other words, it is you who comes off looking suspect.

Anon. 8.28AM

AMEN to your comments.

People are just too sensitive to things that are not meant to be bad. Ignorance is one of the most common traits between people, even if not meant in a hurtful way.

Personally, as a female, I would never give a damn if somebody calls me a bitch. Why would I give anybody else the power? No way Jose...

I'm not of Jewish background... but many of my friends are... since my network looks like the UN. They are Jews and happen to be Jewish and followers of Judaism.

Why do we get offended so easily? Another close friend of mine is black and hates when people assume she is African American... because she is not. She's from the Caribbean and a mixture of many continents.

All I can say... I don't look at labels... we are all part of the human experience and would advise anyone not to allow what others say about you destroy you. It says more about them. Henceforth, how could I HATE Amber for a stupid stereotypical statement... the girl is just ignorant.

Me... I am Swedish and I bet you that the majority of people who see that word, think tall, blond and blue eyed. Wrong! That's another stereotype.

Be proud of your background and don't let anybody get you down.

I think it is always facinating when a person who has NOT had a personal experience tells a person who HAS had a personal experience they are wrong.
